If you continue to read my blog, you will learn that Ocean City, NJ is my happy place. I grew up going down the shore with family…it is a calming, relaxing place that always recharges and re-energizes me!
When my mom and I would vacation there each year, we’d usually take day trips to Atlantic City and to Smithville. This year, for Mother’s Day, I gave my mom an IOU for a trip to Smithville for some mother-daughter bonding time! If you are looking for a great weekend getaway, I highly recommend this little gem. I found a great deal on LivingSocial (keep your eyes peeled for them!), and took her in August for a three day, two night trip. Even though we traveled in the summer, Smithville would be a great destination in the spring or fall, too.
Historic Smithville is a magical place. The little town boasts over 60 shoppes, seven places to grab a bite and many events throughout the year. It really is the perfect place to go for mother-daughter trips, or even romantic weekend getaways!
The Colonial Inn of Smithville is a bed and breakfast located right in the middle of town. When we stayed, we had a room in The Barn…the Inn’s newest building on the far side of the town. It was absolutely perfect! We stayed in room #310, which had a queen bed for mom and a built-in, alcove day bed for me.
In the morning, I’d stroll through the quiet town over to the Inn to pick up our breakfast basket. How adorable is that?! We got to choose from four muffin varieties (chocolate and blueberry were my favorites!), which were paired with yogurt and a beverage of our choosing. I’m a tea drinker, and they had many from which to choose! We stayed in a room with a porch entrance, so you could enjoy your breakfast outside, or at the table in your room!
If you are like me, you love a good shopping excursion! Smithville certainly has plenty of shoppes to peruse…over 60 in total! I am absolutely addicted to jewelry and accessories, so Trendie Treasures is always my first stop. On this trip, I picked up a blinged-out pair of aviators, some headbands for the beach and a couple pieces of jewelry. When we stayed at the Inn, we also received a voucher for a free bar of soap from the Little Egg Harbor Soap Company. I chose “Sex on the Beach” (for the smell, of course…it was delicious!), and also picked up a sample of pineapple. I found some smooth body butter and grabbed the “Beach Days” scent. All of their products are handmade and natural!
While I will admit we spent a good bit of time in Ocean City eating our favorite Mack & Manco pizza on the boardwalk, we always make time for lunch at Fred and Ethel’s Lantern Light Tavern in Smithville. The restaurant is named after the couple who founded the town of Smithville. With seven eateries to choose from, you’ll find something that tastes good to you!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…Smithville is magical. It is just the perfect little weekend getaway! Can’t wait to a book another trip!
