Capital City Living | Bube’s Brewery Murder Mystery

bubes_main photo

I’m excited to start a new regular series on this blog ⇒ Capital City Living! The Harrisburg region is booming with restaurants, places to enjoy outdoor adventures, arts and entertainment and great wineries and breweries. Our Capital city may be small, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in unique experiences!

For my birthday (and our March date night…resolution, check!), Alex took me to a murder mystery dinner…I have been dying to go to one! He made reservations for us at Bube’s Brewery in Mount Joy. Previously, I had only ever been to Bube’s for lunch, so I didn’t have the opportunity to really get a feel for the nightlife at the establishment. DIY | #ThriftedThursday – Blanket Ladder

This is — without a doubt — my favorite project to date. For Christmas 2015, Alex booked us a trip to the Finger Lakes in January because he knew I was dying to visit the region for the first time. I absolutely love wine and there was no shortage of amazing vineyards and wineries for us to explore. I fell in love with the culture and beauty of the region while we were there. On our last day, we stopped for lunch in Watkins Glen on our way back down to Pennsylvania. As we were leaving, I spotted a cool little antique store across the street where I found the subject of today’s blog. Continue reading “DIY | #ThriftedThursday – Blanket Ladder”

Mangia | Pepper Jack Tomato Soup with Garlic Croutons

If you’ve ever visited Isaac’s Famous Grilled Sandwiches restaurant chain here in Central PA, you may have seen their pepper jack tomato soup on the menu. It is SO delicious. Alex — who often turns his nose up at all things tomato — tried it and absolutely loved it. I vowed to try to recreate it at home! With the weather taking a turn for the cooler lately, warm up with this soup before the spring temperatures return. Continue reading “Mangia | Pepper Jack Tomato Soup with Garlic Croutons”

Mangia | Crispy Cheese Crackers

Do you LOVE crunchy, salty snacks like me? If I’m being honest, I like all snacks..including sweets…but there is a special place for the crunch and the salt!  I could really go to town on a bag of chips when I’m in the mood, but since I can’t let myself do that, I have to find other ways to satisfy my taste buds!

Enter: crispy cheese crackers. Now, I’m not advocating that you eat 15 of these in one sitting, but the crispiness will definitely satisfy your need for crunch…and who doesn’t love cheese? Continue reading “Mangia | Crispy Cheese Crackers”

DIY | #ThriftedThursday – Glass Vase Upcycle

I absolutely love changing around our home decor. If I bought everything I wanted from Pier 1, World Market or West Elm as often as I’d like, we’d go broke! When I get the itch to change things up, I like to scope out our local thrift stores to see if there are any cheap pieces I can upcycle to fit my design style. Luckily, I found a couple of vases on my last trip that inspired me to create a new spring tablescape. Continue reading “DIY | #ThriftedThursday – Glass Vase Upcycle”

Mangia | Baked “Smoked” Chicken Drumsticks

Chicken, chicken, chicken. Sometimes I feel like that’s all I make! But, it’s a staple in our diet and I am always coming up with new ways to make poultry. I experimented and came up with a DE-LI-CIOUS smoky dry rub recipe to make your chicken even more tasty!

You can use this method on any cut of chicken, but since I’m always using breasts, I picked up a pack of chicken drumsticks for this recipe. The mixture of spices evokes a “smoked” flavor, and once you add the BBQ sauce, these will tantalize your taste buds for sure. Continue reading “Mangia | Baked “Smoked” Chicken Drumsticks”

Adventures | Dahntahn Pittsburgh N’at

If you don’t speak fluent Pittsburghese like this native, the translation of the title is “downtown Pittsburgh and that,” meaning…we did a lot of fun things around the city this past weekend! In my 2016 resolutions post, I said Alex and I wanted to make a concerted effort to plan monthly date nights where we can try new food, attend events, etc. We had a slow go in January since it was just so busy, but we didn’t miss February! For Valentine’s Day, I gave Alex tickets to see an EDM DJ — Hardwell — in my hometown of Pittsburgh. I seized the opportunity to make it our February date night by planning a fun time downtown. Plus, it’s always fun to visit my Mom! Continue reading “Adventures | Dahntahn Pittsburgh N’at”
